Please join us at our 33rd Anniversary Banquet on Wednesday, May 3, 2017, beginning at 6:00 pm at Hei La Moon Restaurant in Boston’s Chinatown (88 Beach Street, Boston, Massachusetts).
This year’s Banquet marks the 33rd Anniversary of AALAM’s founding. The Anniversary Banquet is the hallmark event of our year and provides an opportunity for AALAM members, together with friends and supporters of AALAM, to celebrate our many 2016-17 accomplishments.
During the festivities, AALAM will present its Founders Award to AALAM’s founding President, Paul W. Lee. The Founders Award, AALAM’s highest honor, is awarded annually to an Asian American attorney who has made significant contributions in business, academics or the community as it relates to the law. Mr. Lee’s leadership in the AALAM community has spanned over three decades, and this evening will provide AALAM members, friends and supporters an opportunity to honor and celebrate Mr. Lee’s inspiring contributions to our community.
Mr. Lee’s commitment to advancing diversity and inclusion in the legal profession is deep and determined. Mr. Lee was one of the original founders of AALAM, when he and a handful of other Asian American attorneys got together regularly in the early 1980’s to create a supportive professional and social network, and advocate for Asian American issues. Over the years, Mr. Lee has mentored countless Asian American attorneys, and to this day, Mr. Lee continues to provide support, guidance and motivation to AALAM and its members, as well as its national affiliate, National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA), for which he was a past president and former board member.
Mr. Lee’s generosity and leadership extends beyond the Asian American legal community. He is a member of the board of The Boston Foundation, the board of Common Impact, and the WGBH Board of Overseers. He previously served as chair of the Massachusetts Asian American Commission and chair of the Asian Task Force Against Domestic Violence. He also currently serves as board president of the Asian Community Development Corporation, which he co-founded in 1987. In 2005, Mr. Lee established and endowed the first NAPABA Law Foundation Community Law Fellowship designed to develop future public interest law leaders. He has also served in numerous leadership roles at the American Bar Association (ABA), including as a member of the ABA Board of Governors. The entire AALAM community looks up to Mr. Lee as an example of how to lead and give back to the community.
