Thank you for your interest in serving on the board of directors for the Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts (“AALAM”). The AALAM board of directors is responsible for setting and executing strategic initiatives for the year to further its commitment to support and promote the AAPI legal community.  This includes planning and hosting a number of events throughout the year, ranging from the annual banquet to practice-specific outings to family-oriented activities. We are looking for a few practicing lawyers to join the board of directors for the 2026 calendar year to help AALAM carry forward its mission.  We are also seeking to appoint a law student as a non-voting member of the board.

The below is a list of responsibilities and expectations for each of our directors, which include but are not limited to:

  • participating in crafting long-term and short-term strategic plans for AALAM;
  • attending the annual board retreat;
  • attending at least 50% of all monthly board meetings;
  • being responsible for seeking sponsorship from your employer (if applicable and/or permitted), and advertising ticket sales for the 2025 AALAM Banquet;
  • committing to and serving on at least two Committees, which currently consists of (i) the Banquet Committee, (ii) the In-House Counsel Committee, (iii) the Judicial Pipeline Committee, (iv) the Government, Public Interest and Non-Profit Committee, (v) the Law Firm Committee, (vi) the Law Student Committee, (vii) the Scholarship Committee, (viii) the Communications and Social Media Committee, and (ix) the Social Justice and Advocacy Task Force (note: all new directors are expected to serve on the Banquet Committee);
  • making a concerted effort to attend and assist events organized by other directors of the board;
  • organizing, planning, managing/co-managing, and executing at least two events, projects or initiatives that provide professional, networking, or social opportunities to our members; and
  • [for law student representative only] leading and being responsible for the AALAM Law Student Support Program, which aims to provide flexible community support for law students who self-identify as first-generation law students, students from low-income backgrounds, or students experiencing financial need.

Applications to be nominated to AALAM’s board of directors, which can be downloaded below, are due by November 7. The executive board of directors will review your application and provide notice of its determination by around November 21. We thank you for your consideration and we look forward to hearing from you. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to any of the executive directors (see below) or any other AALAM board director.
