In celebration of January 30, 2024, Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and the Constitution, a day of advocacy and education, please join us for an intimate “fireside chat” with Dr. Karen Korematsu, Founder and President of the Fred T. Korematsu Institute and the daughter of the late civil rights icon, Fred Korematsu.

Fred Korematsu was the appellant in the seminal US Supreme Court case Korematsu v. United States on the constitutionality of the internment of Japanese Americans during World War II, a case that is frequently cited today as one of the worst Supreme Court decisions of all time.  Dr. Korematsu is a national speaker and travels the country advocating for civil liberties, social justice, civics and ethnic studies education.

This program will include time for networking with AALAM members and community leaders as well as a Q&A session with our esteemed guest.  Wine, beer and appetizers will be served.

Please note that there will also be a community gathering to celebrate the recognition of Fred Korematsu Day of Civil Liberties and Constitution by proclamation in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts and the City of Boston.  This event will be held on Monday, January 29th at 2:30-4 pm at the Massachusetts State House, Room 428.  There is also a virtual option available.  Please click here for more details and to register.
