Judiciary and Public Policy Committee

Committee Chairs:

  • Angel Feng (Mintz Levin, AFeng@mintz.com)
  • Phil Yao (Ropes & Gray, Phillip.Yao@ropesgray.com)

The Judiciary and Public Policy Committee seeks to help to identify and develop the number of qualified Asian Pacific American attorneys to serve in the judiciary branch and public offices. The Committee focuses its efforts at all levels, working to diversify not only the federal bench, but also to diversify the state court judiciary, the United States Attorney ranks, and other high level administrative appointments, thereby creating a pipeline for future federal and state court judicial appointments.  The Committee hosts informational programs on the judicial nomination process and resources.  The Committee  is responsible for reviewing requests for referrals, informing our membership of opportunities, nominating exceptional candidates for recognition, and supporting nominated candidates with guidance in the application process.

Additionally, the Committee reviews and evaluates requests for endorsement, collaboration, or support of positions, cases, events, activities, and organizations that advocate, in a non-partisan fashion, the Asian Pacific American community in Boston and nationally, as well as issues that impact our community. Importantly, the Committee is responsible for advising AALAM’s Board on the filing or endorsement of amicus briefs in support of our community, other bar associations and public interest organizations on amicus briefs.
