The Volunteer Lawyers Project is a civil legal aid program that recruits, trains, and mentors private attorneys who take pro bono cases. Volunteer Lawyers Project handles about 1800 cases each year, a quarter of which are for clients with limited English proficiency. For these cases, if Volunteer Lawyers Project can’t find a pro bono lawyer who speaks the client’s language, Volunteer Lawyers Project hires interpreters to enable lawyer and client to communicate with each other.

Volunteer Lawyers Project is currently looking to expand their pool of Vietnamese interpreters for their pro bono cases. Volunteer Lawyers Project does not require interpreters to be court-certified, but asks them to view an interpreter training video and Volunteer Lawyers Project interviews them to make sure they understand their role. Volunteer Lawyers Project hasa preference for people with some interpreting experience. The rate for interpreters is $35/hour.

If you are fluent in English and Vietnamese who might be interested in interpreting for lawyer-client meetings and phone calls in pro bono cases, please let Volunteer Lawyers Project know or contact Adrian Coss directly. His direct line is 857-320-6446.
