Navigating Unconscious Bias

Potential Impact and Real World Strategy

We all have unconscious biases. We come by them naturally. They are a result of how our brains work and our experiences in life. Our brains make quick assessments, without us even knowing that the process is taking place. As a result, we move toward some people and step back from others. We make positive or negative judgments. We assume potential or dismiss value. Split-second decisions our brains make throughout our day have an impact on how we do our jobs.

Together we will engage in an experiential exercise to probe the concept of unconscious bias and consider the impact it has on interactions within our organizations. We will help participants evaluate how they engage with other lawyers, staff and clients. Finally, we will strategize ways to uncover the process and minimize the negative consequences.
