AALAM is supporting Ricesticks & Tea on Saturday, October 14 from 6:00 am to 9:30 am to help package and distribute much needed food to low-income members of our Asian American community.

We are looking for 8 volunteers to join us – spots will be first come, first served!  The event will begin at 6:00 am at the Arlington Street Church and will conclude at around 9:30 am. And we'll head to Chinatown afterwards for some well-deserved dim sum!

Founded in 1998, Ricesticks and Tea (RST) is a food pantry program serving over 120 pre-screened low-income Asian immigrant and refugee families each month. Those 120 households represent over 300 children, adults and seniors. It is the only food pantry program in the region whose mission is to serve the Asian community and provide food that is consistent with their cultural cooking traditions and preferences.

AALAM - More than a Mock: A Trial Presentation

AALAM invites its members interested in trial work and litigation to watch Attorney Garrett Lee and Justice Jason Chan try a civil case. The trial will be presided over by the well-respected Justice Asha White.

The program is intended to provide law students and young attorneys a truncated but realistic example of trial work. The trial will be fast-paced and go from jury selection all the way through closing arguments. The full mock experience will be crammed into a two hour session with a Q&A session to follow.

Whether you are interested in trial work or just want to see a showdown between two attorneys with litigation experience, this free program is a great opportunity to learn about trials!

    Date: November 14, 2023

    Time: 6:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Location: Suffolk Law School Mock Trial Room (120 Tremont Street, Boston, 02108)

The Asian American Lawyers Association of Massachusetts (“AALAM”) proudly congratulates Michelle Wu on her historic win as the first Asian American woman elected Mayor of Boston, Massachusetts.

Michelle Wu has long been a supporter of AALAM and she received the AALAM Scholarship Award in 2010 when she was a student at Harvard Law School. The annual AALAM Scholarship Award (renamed the AALAM/Dow Fund Scholarship in 2015) is awarded to an Asian American law student who demonstrates leadership potential, maturity and responsibility, a commitment to making a contribution to the Asian American community and other indicia of excellence, whether personal, professional or academic. Michelle Wu has certainly lived up to that commitment and we are excited to see her in action as Boston’s next mayor.

Simply put, representation matters and we were heartened to see a very talented pool of Boston mayoral candidates that reflected the growing diversity of Boston’s population.  In addition, we would like to thank Mayor Kim Janey, whose own historic administration broke ceilings and barriers, for her service.

We celebrate Michelle Wu, who will be a great asset to this city. AALAM is excited for the progressive change that her administration will bring to Boston.

Congratulations Mayor-elect Wu!
